Join Library of Virginia staff members and guest speakers in this year’s two-day Teacher Institute. The 14th Annual Brown Teacher Institute will focus on research and projects on local stories and histories that have typically been hidden or neglected from mainstream narratives. Institute participants will not only learn about the rich history of Virginia, but also enrich their understanding of how local stories fit into our national history.

The Institute will offer tools, resources, and content to aid educators in teaching these local stories and hidden histories in the classroom. Teachers will explore how to use primary sources to enhance student learning and discover new digital resources. This year’s institute is in-person.

For 2022–2023, the Library of Virginia is hosting a teacher institute in each of the eight superintendent’s regions, and for the fourteenth annual Brown Teacher Institute (summer 2023), the Library will give preference to attendees from regions twothreefive, and seven.

Teachers must attend the entire Institute to receive a PD certificate. Participants will receive a $300 stipend.
